Cancer Care
MHSAA understands the emotional and financial toll that a cancer diagnosis can bring. In 2011, we established the Cancer Care Program. The purpose is to provide grants to alumni in need of financial assistance due to the repercussions of a diagnosis, treatment, and care of the patient suffering from cancer in all of its forms.
The funds received can be used however the recipient desires; it could be for groceries, utilities, mortgage payments, rent, a vehicle, medications, or even a vacation with their family. The bottom line is, cancer overwhelms, and stress is a cancer patients’ worst enemy. We want to alleviate some of that stress.
The applicant can be an alumnus, their spouse, or a minor child living at home. They must voluntarily disclosing their cancer-related information for consideration by the Committee. The applicant must agree that the Committee may contact them to verify their cancer diagnosis and financial need in order to properly evaluate the application.
In order to serve as many applicants as possible, the maximum amount a recipient may receive in any one year is $2000. The recipient’s grant year shall be based on the anniversary date of an approved application for funds. Funds may not be issued posthumously.
