The Julee Hixon ’84 MHSAA Volunteer Award honors the life, spirit, and legacy of Julee Hixon by recognizing an individual whose service exemplifies extraordinary compassion, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to others. This prestigious award celebrates volunteerism rooted in genuine care, generosity, and a deep sense of responsibility to the community.

This award is presented to an individual who demonstrates exceptional philanthropic service and embodies the highest ideals of empathy, kindness, and altruism. The recipient consistently gives their time, talents, and energy to support and uplift others—particularly those facing significant challenges—without expectation of recognition or personal reward.

Eligibility

  • Nominee may be any individual who demonstrates a strong commitment to volunteerism and giving back within their community.
  • Service may take place within the Milton Hershey School alumni community, the nominee’s hometown, or any community where meaningful impact is made.
  • Nominee may be an alumnus, family member, supporter, or any individual whose service positively benefits others.
  • Volunteer service may be formal or informal but must reflect a sustained commitment and measurable or meaningful impact over time.
  • Eligibility for the Julee Hixon Volunteer Award excludes individuals currently serving on the MHSAA Board of Directors.

Award Criteria

Nominees for the Julee Hixon MHSAA Volunteer Award will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Demonstrated Empathy & Compassion

  • Consistently shows deep empathy and understanding toward individuals facing adversity.
  • Actively supports, encourages, and empowers others through personal action and presence.

Commitment to Philanthropic Service

  • Maintains a strong, ongoing dedication to volunteer service within the community.
  • Regularly contributes time and talents in meaningful, hands-on ways.

Selflessness & Altruistic Spirit

  • Volunteers without expectation of recognition, reward, or personal benefit.
  • Motivated by an intrinsic desire to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of others.

Responsiveness & Reliability

  • Readily offers help when and where it is needed.
  • Demonstrates dependability, follow-through, and a willingness to step in during times of need.

Lasting Impact & Legacy

  • Creates tangible, positive change through sustained service and commitment.
  • Leaves a lasting impression of hope, support, and inspiration within the community.

Nomination Process

  • Nominations may be submitted by alumni, volunteers, chapters, committees, or MHSAA leadership.
  • Each nomination must include a written narrative describing how the nominee meets the award criteria.
  • Supporting examples, testimonials, or documentation of service are encouraged.

Selection Process

  • The MHSAA Nominations Committee will review all nominees and select the award recipient in accordance with the established award criteria.
  • The recipient will be selected based on alignment with the award’s purpose, criteria, and the spirit of volunteerism embodied by Julee Hixon.

Award Presentation

The Julee Hixon MHSAA Volunteer Award will be presented annually at a designated MHSAA event or ceremony, celebrating the recipient’s service and honoring Julee Hixon’s enduring legacy of compassion and selfless service.
