Milton Hershey School named its 2015 Alumnus of the Year: Dr. Anthony Graves 87′.
Dr. Graves has been recognized for his work in pediatric cancer research and is a philanthropist and role model for students.
At the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC runs a research laboratory focusing on studying mitochondrial physiology in pediatric cancers.
After graduating from Milton Hershey School in 1987, Dr. Graves received a Bachelor of Arts from Bucknell University in 1991, and a Ph.D from Carnegie Mellon University in 1996. He received his M.D. from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, 2002.
Dr. Graves says the school “provided me stability and comfort and gave me more of an opportunity to grow as a person. (That) is something that cannot be measured. … It was at a pretty critical time in my life. They just helped to calm a lot of the noise that was making school very difficult for me. If I didn’t have (the school), I don’t know that I would have ever been able to do the things I ultimately have been able to accomplish.”
Anthony, your alumni family is so very proud of the vital work you do; you are caring on the legacy of Milton Hershey himself by giving so much back to society. Thank you.
