MHS / MHSAA Christmas Events

Around the holidays there are ways that you can connect with your alumni family and MHS Students. The following are examples:

Alumni invited to donate to student Mug Project

A meaningful way to support students and the MHS Mission this holiday season

mhsaaAre you looking for a way to help MHS students have a happy holiday season? Donating to the Mug Project is a great way to support MHS students during a time that can be challenging for them.

Watch a video about the Mug Project here.

The Mug Project was started three years ago to help students make handmade gifts for a special person in their life. The project pairs Senior Division student volunteers with Elementary and Middle Division students to create a mug with live greens, a beeswax candle and flashy holiday trinkets.

The Horticulture Center provides many of the materials – for instance, the live greens come from bottom branches of evergreen trees here on campus with a mix of some that are purchased –however, it needs donations of used or thrift store holiday mugs in good condition, mini decorations and other items. Horticulture interns work hard to repurpose this material so all mugs look brand new and special.

If you have any questions or would like to donate to this special holiday project, contact Nan McKay at

There is a drop box for holiday mugs and decorations outside the front door of the Horticulture Center. Drop offs are accepted anytime. You may also mail mugs and decorations to Nan McKay, Milton Hershey School Horticulture Center, P.O. Box 830, Hershey, PA 17033.

Last year, more than 300 students participated in this project.

Elementary Division Christmas Party  with  Alumni Dec. 3

Members of the Homestead Chapter of MHSAA host this annual event, including a visit with Santa for each elementary student.

Students Who Don’t Go Home

The Homestead Chapter, in conjunction with the YRE (Year round experience) office at MHS, holds an an on campus pizza lunch for the Elementary students who stay at MHS for the holidays. They also provide a meal for the Middle and High School students at an off-campus eatery.  They also provide all students with a monetary gift.  Chapter Members, and and spouses, are invited to attend either of these events to interact with the students.

If you’d like to donate to this cause, please contact the Homestead Chapter.
